Hi all,

the latest calibre version enabled me to connect my Android device and have it be recognized even though it acts as an MTP device. It involved downloading some drivers, but it's all set up now. I am now trying to work out how exactly I need to set up the Send to device tab to save fic titles into folders on my device the way I want them too.

My eBooks folder on my internal memory has a couple of subfolders: sdcard > eBooks > Fiction and sdcard > eBooks > Nonfiction. Inside the fiction folder I have a Fanfic folder, then several fandom folders: Avengers, Thor, Iron Man etc., then authors inside those folders. The way calibre works now is that it sends the fics to sdcard > eBooks. Is there a way for me to move specific fics to the appropriate fandom and author folders, or should I think about trying to simplify my device folder structure (perhaps having Fiction, Fanfiction, and Nonfiction inside the eBooks folder)?

I would appreciate screenshots and explanations pointing to the exact locations of the settings I need to change, and the templates I need to use to get the naming I want (Author Name - Series # - Fic title) for Send to device, because I already have one that gives me the above when adding books to calibre.

(Apologies for the wall of text!)

ETA and can the tag "device: android" be added to the comm? Thanks!

ETA2 So I spent the whole day trying to find the correct settings to change and the right expressions to use and then testing the whole thing, and I believe I have the answer I was looking for.

In Preferences > Import/Export > Sending books to devices, in the Save template, add the expression

{#category}/{#fandom}/{authors} - {series:||} {series_index:0>2s|| - }{title}

This saves the fics to sdcard/Books on my device, in folders Fanfiction/Fandom. I eliminated the Fiction/Fanfic/Fandom division to simplify the structure. #category corresponds to the Category custom column, where fics are given the Fanfiction category. The #fandom custom column should be self-explanatory.

You also have to make sure that the same expression is added to Preferences > Advanced > Plugins > Device interface plugin > Android driver and MTP Device Interface as well. I had only added it to the Android driver, which didn't work until I did the same for MTP DI. For those who have Asus EEE devices, it wouldn't hurt to add the same expression there (this is all provided you want to use the above folder structure, of course!)
