(I first posted this on an ereader site I frequent, but I thought that it might also serve someone over here.)

I have come to depend a lot on these two services and I thought that others who use Amazon's Kindle might also find them convenient. One is Send to Kindle for PC, the other is a fanfic downloading side called FlagFic, both of which allow you to send fanfics directly to your Kindle and also archive the stories, if you choose.

Using flag, if you put your free kindle email (YourKindleEmail@free.kindle.com) into the line for sending the story to email, and then authorize the email connected to flagfic by going to the section under your amazon account called "manage your kindle," and then click on the link called "personal document settings," you'll see a place that lets you add approved email addresses. Once you've added the flagfic email, you'll be able to add the stories directly to the kindle over wifi. It also stores the stories in your archive under personal documents, which means you'll be able to download them at any time over wifi. I've always found it very convenient.

The other program, Send to Kindle, allows you to register the program to your account, and then after doing that you'll be able to send documents to your kindle with the choice of whether or not you want the file to be added to your archive. It also converts the file to amazon's format, with the exception of pdf's, and with the program you can send up to 25 stories at a time, which is pretty convenient if you have a large fanfiction collection like I do.

I know I'm new, so I hope it's alright for me to ask a question. Is there any way to download stories in bulk from fanfiction.net? Like an author's favorites list, or even the entire Harry Potter section. I know this is probably a bit of a long shot, but I just thought I'd ask, in case anyone has anything  that does what I'm looking for. Thanks to anyone who replies.

I haven't seen this posted yet. I just found it myself. I use my ipad as an ereader (save fics as pdfs via free print2pdf programs and then reading them via stanza, ibooks, goodreader, and other apps). While looking for fanfic apps, I found one called Pocket Fiction. It lets you download all your faves from fanfiction.net and alerts you to when your alerted stories get updated. Downfall is you cannot sync multiple accounts and fanfiction.net is the only site available right now vs various fic archive sites. I still think it's worth checking out.

Link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-fiction/id453670574?mt=8

Tagged: device: ipod/ipad, formats: pdf (new tag request please)

Edit: Oh and don't be afraid to email the creator asking for things and giving feedback. I sent out two messages after I got the app and got speedy replies.

Does anyone know what happened to Squee!Book? The last couple of times I tried to use it, the site was down. Is that just bad timing on my part? Did it move? Is it gone?

Hi! ::waves:

I've really enjoyed this community, and thought I might give something back. I'm reading fanfic on my iPod Touch. At first, I used Calibre/Stanza to convert and read fanfic on it. And that was fine. Sometimes I had trouble converting things in Calibre, so it always felt like a bit of a gamble, whether or not I'd be able to read the fic later on my iPod. And it was never quick. or easy.

And then I discovered the BookShelf E-book Reader for iPod, iPhone, & iPad. Wow! A great ebook reader on those devices: you can adjust the font sizes, styles, and colors, and can adjust the backgrounds too. You can lock it on vertical or horizontal if you like so that it doesn't flip orientation on you unexpectedly (like when you're reading in bed). And it has an "autoscroll" function so that you don't have to manually turn pages (for if you're reading while on the treadmill or exercise bike).

But what I like best about the software is the BookShelf Server (you download it separately onto your computer, but don't pay extra for it). No more converting fic! Just go to the webpage you want to save to read later, "save as" and make sure the suffix is .html, save the file into a folder on your hard drive. Later, after you've got a bunch of stories saved, just add the whole folder to the BookShelf Server, and upload the files onto the iThing. (there are really easy directions on how-to do all this, and it's very easy to do) The files convert magically, and then it's easy reading! I've had very, very few problems at all with this program, and it's made reading fic on my iThing extremely easy!

Disclaimer: yes, it's not free. I paid a couple of bucks at the App store, but it's been more than worth it!

EDIT: Apparently, there's a free trial version available. woohoo!

I thought this may be of interest to the community or for anyone looking to convert their rtf/doc files to HTML without all the crap Microsoft Office throws in.

Corel WordPerfect X4

I'm testing out the publish to html in trial download version. So far it's doing a great job of creating plain html for the document. There is this one line of weird code but replace all took care of it. Plus this program is new and up-to-date so it should work on Windows 7.

I've been having issues with MS Word 97 in that it would not apply italics correctly to each paragraph and etc...And the other issue is that not everyone has it so for converting fanfics to ebooks MS Word 97 is about 10 years too old to be much use.

This looks really interesting. I haven't had the chance to test it out but I thought the community might like to know about it. :)

This is an excerpt from my post I wrote to introduce a webservice I've written which downloads fanfiction from different websites and stores it online in HTML or ePub format. I hope you will find it useful; on the other hand, if you find it buggy, please contact me and I'll fix it asap.

Some of us love fanfiction. Again, some of us don’t — so if you happen to be one of those, you probably won’t find this post of any interest to you. On the other hand, if you are interested — read on.

Today, will all these fancy ebook reading devices it’s really hard to keep yourself sticked to your monitor and reading from the websites such as fictionpress.com, fanfiction.net and so on. I felt that it is rather annoying too, so that’s why I’ve developed a fanficdownloader — a library, which helps to download fanfiction stories from multiple websites (list includes fictionpress.com, fanfiction.net, fanfictionauthors.net and others). Well, it was cool and all that stuff, but people didn’t like it (which is by no means surprising as end-users tend to like GUI applications rather than Python libraries with a clumsy CLI interface). So I went a step further…

… and developed fanfictionloader. Shortly, this is a web service, which does two things:

  1. Allows to download stories from all these different websites and convert them to industry-standard ePub or good old HTML using a very simple web interface
  2. Stores these stories for you (and you only) so you can always download them later.

Hello, oh wonderful people who can hopefully answer my burning questions! (Is the flattery working?) I'm really interested in Barnes & Noble's new eBook called the nook. The nook just came out about a month ago so it's very new, but it's already back ordered to February 11! I've been keeping an eye on it because I like what I see.The Kindle and Sony eReader just look weird to me, and I don't like the way they operate. But then, I've only ever seen the much abused Sony eReader at my local Best Buy store and the info about the Kindle on Amazon so I could very well be mistaken. The nook is the only ebook/ereader that I've actually gotten to play with and explore much so I may very well be prejudiced. If I am, please set me straight. I'd love to learn more about other devices from people who actually know about them! Anyway, the purpose of this post is to ask if anyone has tried out PDF files converted in NeoOffice on the nook. I have a Mac and use NeoOffice as my main word processor. My plan is to beg for a nook for Christmas and be able to read all my favorite fanfiction when ever and where ever I want. So, do you experts think my plan will work? I don't wanna get the nook only to be disappointed, not that I'd mind having access to B&N's new ebook library and all the other great features, but I really want to read my sl-ah fanfic on the go (and keep it safe - I tend to loose stuff). Thanks! Meg =) P.S. I don't think LiveJournal likes me right now. This post may be a bit confusing because of some format errors - sorry!

BookCreator Tool I found this tool via Mobile Read Forums. I haven’t had the chance to test it out yet but it looks like it’ll allow people to convert documents to LRF/MOBI/and ePub from Microsoft Word 2003-2007 which could be good for those who are not familiar with HTML coding.
