In order to save your settings and transfer them to another computer you'll need to go to Preferences -- Advanced -- Miscellaneous and select the button/link that says Open Calibre configuration directory. Save the directory path because it should be the same on your desktop as it is on your notebook.
Then copy entire folder contents to your desktop computer and overwrite your desktop Calibre configuration. All your settings are in that config folder.
Before I reformat my computer I make sure to save that folder to my backup as well as my Calibre Library.
